India's transfer of BrahMos supersonic missiles to the Philippines has stirred tensions in the region, with China expressing vehement opposition.

The Chinese military labeled the move a threat to third-party peace, emphasizing the need for defense cooperation to prevent destabilization of regional harmony.

The deal, valued at $375 million and inked in January 2022, saw India committing to provide three batteries of BrahMos missiles, including launchers and associated equipment, to the Philippines. The recent transfer of the initial batch of BrahMos missiles on April 19 marked India's maiden export of these high-speed supersonic cruise missiles.

The timing of this transfer coincides with heightened tensions in the South China Sea, where China's territorial claims intersect with those of the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, and Taiwan. China's Defense Ministry spokesperson, Colonel Wu Qian, emphasized the principle that defense collaborations should not jeopardize the interests of third parties.

In a parallel development, China vehemently criticized the United States for deploying ballistic missiles in the China-Asia Pacific Sea, condemning it as a grave threat to regional security. China asserted that such actions by the US undermine regional peace and stability, further exacerbating existing tensions in the area.
