Lok Sabha Election 2024

Lok Sabha Election 2024:

This time, the three-time MP did not get the ticket; he consumed poison and lost his life.

Tragic Demise of MDMK MP Ganeshamurthi Highlights Pre-Election Tensions:

The atmosphere in Tamil Nadu's political landscape is charged as the bugle of the Lok Sabha elections has been sounded. Parties, ranging from the BJP to Congress and others, are fervently releasing the lists of their candidates, gearing up for the electoral battle ahead. However, amidst this bustling election fervour, a sombre and unexpected incident has shaken the political sphere - the untimely demise of Member of Parliament Avinashi Ganeshamurthi of the MDMK party.

The news of Ganeshamurthi's death emerged tragically after an alleged suicide attempt at his residence in Erode on March 24th. Admitted to the hospital after that, Ganeshamurthi's passing marks a deeply saddening turn of events. The backdrop of this incident is underscored by the denial of a ticket for the Lok Sabha elections, a decision that weighed heavily on Ganeshamurthi's mind, according to his family.

Who was MP A. Ganeshamurthi? Born on June 10, 1947, Ganeshamurthi was a prominent figure in Tamil Nadu politics, serving as the leader of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK). With a political career spanning several decades, he held the position of MP thrice, representing the Erode Lok Sabha constituency twice - in 2019 and 2009 - and once from Palani in 1998.

March 24th marked a tragic turn in Ganeshamurthi's life as he consumed poison, leading to a series of events that culminated in his passing at the age of 77. His demise dealt a significant blow to the MDMK party, especially in the wake of the impending elections. Family members revealed that the denial of the election ticket had left Ganeshamurthi distressed, ultimately leading to his unfortunate decision.

In the midst of this turmoil, the question arises - who will now take up the mantle? MDMK has bestowed the ticket for the Erode Lok Sabha seat upon youth leader E. Prakash, a decision that underlines the shifting dynamics within the party. Prakash's close association with Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, adds another layer of significance to this development.

Prominent leaders from various political factions rushed to the hospital as Ganeshamurthi's condition deteriorated, reflecting the gravity of the situation. However, despite their efforts, Ganeshamurthi succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind a legacy marred by tragedy.

Ganeshamurthi's victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, with a staggering margin of 2,10,618 votes, underscores his influence and popularity among the electorate. Yet, the denial of a ticket for the upcoming polls reveals the volatile nature of politics and the personal toll it can take on individuals.

In the aftermath of Ganeshamurthi's demise, MDMK leader Vaiko expressed the party's grief and deliberation over the future course of action. However, before any decision could be made, fate intervened with the tragic news of Ganeshamurthi's passing.

As investigations into the circumstances surrounding Ganeshamurthi's alleged suicide attempt unfold, the political landscape in Tamil Nadu remains fraught with tension and uncertainty. His untimely demise serves as a stark reminder of the immense pressures and challenges inherent in political life, casting a sombre shadow over the upcoming elections.
