Syrup: Toxic chemicals were found in the syrups of two pharma companies; both medicines are still available in online pharmacies.

As per the test at the CDSCO laboratory, Trimax expectorant contained 0.118 per cent EG, while allergy medicine Silpro Plus syrup was found to have 0.171 per cent ethylene glycol (EG) and 0.243 per cent diethylene glycol (DEG).

Toxic chemical elements have been found in cough syrup and anti-allergy syrup of a pharmaceutical company in Gujarat. This has been revealed in a government report. Gujarat Food and Drug Control Administration Commissioner HG Kosiya said that during the inspection of the company's factory last month, the medicines were found poisonous.

The company, he said, could have done better on compliance standards of good manufacturing practices. There needed to be an adequate water system there. The air-handling unit needed to be fixed. In the more significant interest of public health, we ordered the team to shut down production.

However, the pharma company has not actually made any comment on this. As per the test at CDSCO laboratory, Trimax expectorant contained 0.118 per cent EG, while allergy medicine Silpro Plus syrup was found to have 0.171 per cent ethylene glycol (EG) and 0.243 per cent diethylene glycol (DEG).

The World Health Organization (WHO) says the safe limit based on internationally accepted standards is at most 0.10 per cent. It is not clear whether Norris recalled the medicines or whether anyone was harmed by their consumption. Both these medicines are currently listed on the online pharmacy.

The cold-out syrup was also contaminated.
Apart from this, CDSCO has also found three batches of cold-out syrup manufactured by Tamil Nadu company Fortes (India) Laboratories contaminated with DEG and EG. The World Health Organization had said that a set of Cold Out sold in Iraq contained unacceptable levels of DEG and EG. However, Fortes Company has not made any comment about this. SV Veeramani, chairman of the government-backed Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexil), said analysis of retention samples from the cold out did not find any toxic substance.
