Toxic chemical elements have been found in cough syrup and anti-allergy syrup of a pharmaceutical company in Gujarat. This has been revealed in a government report. Gujarat Food and Drug Control Administration Commissioner HG Kosiya said that during the inspection of the company's factory last month, the medicines were found poisonous.

The company, he said, could have done better on compliance standards of good manufacturing practices. There needed to be an adequate water system there. The air-handling unit needed to be fixed. In the more significant interest of public health, we ordered the team to shut down production.

Apart from this, CDSCO has also found three batches of cold-out syrup manufactured by Tamil Nadu company Fortes (India) Laboratories contaminated with DEG and EG. The World Health Organization had said that a set of Cold Out sold in Iraq contained unacceptable levels of DEG and EG. However, Fortes Company has not made any comment about this. SV Veeramani, chairman of the government-backed Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexil), said analysis of retention samples from the cold out did not find any toxic substance.
