Lok sabha electiion

Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, Congress MP and party general secretary, respectively, have decided not to contest the impending Lok Sabha elections from their traditional constituencies of Amethi and Rae Bareli.

According to these sources, Priyanka Gandhi is focusing on managing the party's campaign across the country, while Rahul Gandhi expresses his intention to only contest from Wayanad.

There had been speculation for some time that Rahul Gandhi might contest from Amethi again, while Priyanka Gandhi could be fielded from her mother Sonia Gandhi's Rae Bareli seat. The UP Congress put forth this proposition, which was democratically discussed in the Congress Election Committee meeting. However, both leaders declined to contest from these constituencies.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi contested two seats—Wayanad in Kerala and Amethi in UP. Despite Amethi being a stronghold of the Congress, he was defeated by Smriti Irani. Sonia Gandhi, on the other hand, won convincingly from Rae Bareli. With Sonia now a Rajya Sabha member from Rajasthan, there had been ongoing discussions about Priyanka Gandhi contesting from Rae Bareli. However, Sonia Gandhi's role in the upcoming elections remains crucial as she continues to guide the party's strategies and campaigns.

Adding another layer to the political dynamics within the Gandhi family, Robert Vadra, Priyanka Gandhi's husband, has expressed interest in the Amethi seat. During a recent visit to Haridwar, he hinted at the possibility of entering active politics, citing support from people in the area who have consistently urged him to do so, given his longstanding involvement in campaigning there since 1999. This potential move could further reshape the political landscape in the region.
