Xiaomi made a significant stride into the electric vehicle market by announcing the launch of its inaugural electric car, the SU7 sedan, on Thursday. During a livestream, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun directly compared the SU7 with the Tesla Model 3 and revealed plans for its availability in Chinese cities by May. The Xiaomi SU7 boasts impressive performance metrics, with a claimed zero to one hundred kilometers per hour acceleration time of just 2.78 seconds and a maximum speed of 265 kilometers per hour. Equipped with dual motors, the top model delivers a staggering 637 horsepower and 838 Newton meters of peak torque, all powered by an 800-volt architecture akin to Tesla's Cybertruck. Xiaomi asserts an impressive range of 700 to 900 kilometers, depending on the chosen trim level, showcasing the SU7's prowess in both speed and endurance, positioning it as a formidable competitor in the electric vehicle market.
The Xiaomi SU7 sedan impresses with its dimensions, measuring five meters in length and two meters in width and featuring a wheelbase of three meters. Xiaomi attributes its "elegant and low stance" to achieving a remarkable drag coefficient of 0.195, setting a new standard in its class. Initially unveiled with three color options during MWC 2024 in Barcelona, Xiaomi has expanded its palette by adding six more colors, offering customers a total of nine enticing choices. Priced at 215,900 Chinese Yuans or approximately Rs 24,90,413, it offers a compelling balance of performance and affordability.
Next up is the SU7 Pro model, equipped with a larger 94.3 kWh battery delivering an extended range of 830 kilometers. Priced at 245,900 yuan or Rs 28,36,464, this model offers enhanced performance and range for discerning customers.
At the top end, the SU7 Max model boasts a robust 101 kWh battery, offering an impressive range of nearly 900 kilometers.
