Rome. Italy is trialling a scheme to offer free taxi rides to party-goers to curb drunk driving and fatal accidents. For this, a pilot project will run in 6 nightclubs across the country till the middle of September. Under this scheme, those who are seen driving heavily intoxicated while leaving the party places will be subjected to an alcohol test. A taxi will be called to take people who are found to be above the alcohol limit. The Ministry of Transport is giving money for this scheme.

According to a report in 'Hindustan Times,' Italy's Transport Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini has pushed this plan forward. On social media, Salvini said, 'This is a practical initiative aimed at preventing danger and tragedy on the roads.' He said that fines and laws are not enough to prevent deaths on the roads; we need to include everyone in the prevention plan. Need to be included. According to a 2020 European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) report, drunk driving is a severe problem in Italy. At the same time, the survey has shown that the level of acceptability of drinking and driving in Italy is higher than in other EU countries.
