 He declared RCB deserving of the championship. Ricky Ponting, the former Australian cricketing legend and head coach of Delhi Capitals, made a bold claim before the eliminator match between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 22. He stated that if RCB were to win their maiden IPL title this season, there should be no surprise.

Ponting spoke about Royal Challengers Bangalore regarding ICC. He said, "RCB has done wonders in their last 6 matches. If they win their first IPL title, don't be surprised."

It's worth mentioning that Bangalore had recorded consecutive victories in their last 6 matches. The team secured their place in the playoffs by defeating Chennai Super Kings in their final league match. Before winning 6 consecutive matches, the team had also lost 6 matches in a row. With just 1 win in the initial 8 matches, the team was positioned at the 10th spot in the points table. However, they staged a remarkable comeback from there to secure a place in the playoffs.

RCB, under the captaincy of Faf du Plessis, had secured a place in the playoffs by winning 7 out of 14 league matches. Besides RCB, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Lucknow Super Giants had also secured 14 points by winning 7 league matches each. However, due to a better net run rate, Bangalore made it to the playoffs.
