As a result of the adverse weather conditions, four people have died, and more than 100 are reported injured. Prime Minister Modi and the Chief Minister of Bengal have spoken to relevant authorities to assess relief efforts.

With Heavy Rainfall and Strong Winds.

Officials have reported that heavy rainfall and strong winds in most parts of the district headquarters city and many areas neighboring Mainaguri have damaged huts and houses, uprooted trees, and fallen electric poles. They have stated that due to the cyclone, areas like Rajarhat, Barnish, Bakali, Jorpakuri, Madhabdanga, and Saptibari have been most affected, and crops on several acres of land have incurred losses.

Four Dead.

Officials have identified the deceased as Dijendra Narayan Sarkar (52), Anima Barman (45), Jagan Roy (72), and Samar Roy (64). A senior official from Jalpaiguri district said, "Several pedestrians were injured due to heavy rainfall. A disaster response team has been deployed, and relief booths have been set up."

Over 100 Injured.

Dhupguri MLA Nirmal Chandra Roy stated that many injured individuals have been admitted to hospitals. Sources associated with the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal reported that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has canceled her scheduled programs and will visit Jalpaiguri on Sunday.

Governor to Visit Jalpaiguri.

Officials at Raj Bhavan revealed that Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar will also visit affected areas on Monday. They informed me that an emergency cell had been set up at Raj Bhavan to address the situation in Jalpaiguri.

CM Mamata Issues Directives.

Banerjee stated that civic administration, police, and disaster management personnel have been mobilized for relief work. The Chief Minister posted on the social media platform 'X,' "It is saddening to learn that this afternoon sudden heavy rainfall and stormy winds have caused disasters in some areas of Jalpaiguri-Managuri, resulting in loss of human life, injuries, house damages, a tree falls, and electric pole collapses."

She said, "The district administration will compensate the families and the injured in accordance with the rules and following the MCC (Model Code of Conduct)." According to an official statement, Governor Dhankhar is in touch with the Disaster Management Authority in Delhi. He has requested additional resources and personnel to be sent to Jalpaiguri.

Orange Alert for Northeast.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an "orange alert" on Sunday, predicting "heavy to hefty" rainfall in several northeastern states over the next five days. The IMD's local weather center (RMC) in Guwahati has issued an "orange alert" for Sunday in Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh. The RMC stated that thunderstorms, heavy to hefty rainfall, and wind speeds of 30-40 kilometers per hour are expected in these states. The RMC has issued a "yellow alert" for these states for the next four days.
