The Election Commission announced the dates for the Lok Sabha elections 2024 last week, but its commencement has begun today, Wednesday (March 20). This year's general elections will be held in seven phases, with the notification for the first phase being issued on March 20.
In the first phase, elections will be held for 102 seats across 21 states. Candidates from states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, and Arunachal Pradesh can file their nominations starting today. Voting for the first phase in 21 states and union territories is scheduled for April 19, with results expected on June 4.

In the first phase, polling will take place as follows: In Arunachal Pradesh: 2 seats, Assam: 4 seats, Manipur: 2 seats, Meghalaya: 2 seats, Mizoram: 1 seat, Nagaland: 1 seat, Sikkim: 1 seat, Tripura: 1 seat, Andaman and Nicobar Islands: 1 seat, Lakshadweep:1 seat, Puducherry: 1 seat,

Apart from these, Tamil Nadu will have 39 seats, Rajasthan 12, Uttar Pradesh 8, Madhya Pradesh 6, Maharashtra 5, Uttarakhand 5, Bihar 4, and West Bengal 3 seats in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024.
Nomination Process:
After the notification for the Lok Sabha elections is issued, the nomination process commences. Under this, candidates register their names before the Election Commission. They claim to be the right candidate to secure the public's votes in the electoral arena. The documents and proofs submitted by these candidates are scrutinized, and then the candidature is finalized. Only after the finalization of the candidature can any contestant campaign for votes in the election.
