The 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) has moved to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as India is standing at the third-highest tally of COVID-19 cases in the world.

IPL 2020

After a lot of uncertainties, all eight teams have finally reached the UAE and Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 is all set to begin in just 25 days on September 19. The tournament’s final is scheduled to be held on November 10.

The event will be held in UAE for the second time after a few matches of IPL 2014 being played at UAE due to the Lok Sabha elections in India. The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) is yet to announce the schedule for the 53-day long cash-rich league.

Here is a look at the possible venues for IPL 2020:

Dubai International Cricket Stadium

The stadium, which was formerly known as Dubai Sports City Cricket Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium that is mostly used to organise cricket matches. With a capacity of 25,000 spectators (expandable to 30,000 spectators), the stadium has hosted all three formats of the game.

The stadium’s inaugural One-Day International (ODI) was played in 2009 between Australia and Pakistan, and coincidentally the last ODI in 2019 was also played between these two teams.

Dubai International Cricket Stadium has also hosted other international matches of the nations including Barramundis and Netherlands.

Sharjah Cricket Stadium

Sharjah Cricket Stadium is one of the most iconic stadia of the world and also holds a Guinness Book of Record for hosting the greatest number of ODI matches. 240 ODIs have been played at the ground so far.

A few initial matches of the IPL 2014 were also played at the venue before the tournament moved to India.

It’s noteworthy that Sharjah Cricket Stadium has been infamous for the match-fixing scandal that broke in 2000. Amid the COVID-19 security protocol, IPL Governing Body will have a task at their hands to keep the league free from the betting and fixing virus too.

Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium

Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium is the second favourite venue in UAE, after Sharjah Cricket Stadium, for conducting the IPL matches.
