If you want to break the monotony and are looking for something different yet healthy, try this cucumber chutney next time. Cucumber (or kheera) is one of the most popular foods for weight loss diet. With its high water and low calorie content, this refreshing and hydrating food can be fashioned into a wonderful chutney that you are bound to love. This can also be a perfect addition for your Onam 2020 menu. 

If you love cucumber in your salad and raita, you’ll love it in this chutney too. The fact that it is so easy to make is just another feather in its cap. Cucumber chutney is popularly consumed in south India, especially in Mangalore and goes by the name of Southekkai chutney. Here, we are making a simple version of this chutney for a quick-fix recipe that you can rustle up in less than 15 minutes.

Cucumber Chutney Recipe – 

(Make 1 bowl for 4-5 people)

Ingredients – 
1 cucumber
1 tsp chana dal
2-3 green chillies
1 tsp minced garlic
Half tsp mustard seeds
5-6 curry leaves
2 tbsp grated coconut (optional)
Salt to taste
1 tsp tamarind pulp
A pinch of hing

Method – 

tep 1 – Peel and chop the cucumber. Blend it with coconut, garlic, green chillies, salt and tamarind to make a smooth paste.
Step 2 – Heat some oil in a pan, add, hing, mustard seeds, chana dal and curry leaves till they crackle. 
Step 3 – Pour the tamarind over the cucumber paste, garnish with some chopped cucumber cubes, coriander leaves and serve.

This creamy, tangy, slightly-sweet chutney is so delicious, you’ll end up making it all the time. Perfect to go with dosa, idli and vada, this chutney can also be paired with parathas and biryani
If you don’t want to make cucumber chutney with south Indian flavours, you can simply blend cucumber with ginger, garlic, onion, tomato and spices of your choice. Whichever recipe you choose, cucumber will be your next favourite food to make chutneys with.
