New Delhi: India’s coronavirus count crossed 40-lakh mark on Saturday after the country reported the highest single-day spike of 86,432 fresh cases in a span of 24 hours. With the record surge, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has now climbed to 40,23,179.

Of the total cases, 31,07,222 have been successfully treated while one case has been migrated from the country. There are 8,46,395 active cases of COVID-19 in India and all are under medical supervision.

The death toll has increased to 69,561 in the country with 1,089 more persons succumbing to the viral infection in the last 24 hours, according to the latest data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

“India’s COVID-19 tally crosses 40 lakh with single-day spike of 86,432 new cases and 1,089 deaths reported in the last 24 hours. The total case tally stands at 40,23,179 including 8,46,395 active cases, 31,07,223 cured/discharged/migrated & 69,561 deaths,” said the ministry.

India is the third worst-hit country by the coronavirus pandemic in the world after the United States and Brazil.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a cumulative total of 4,77,38,491 samples have been tested so far, of which 10,59,346 samples were tested on Friday.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-affected state by the coronavirus outbreak in the country with the COVID-19 tally crossing over 8.3 lakh. The total number of positive cases in the state has climbed to 8,37,098 and 25,964 deaths, according to the ministry.

Andhra Pradesh has become the second-worst hit in the country, followed by Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Delhi.
